The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a celebration of visual excellence. Signage is a practical medium, communicating useful information. Our task at the Met's Uris Center for Education was to bridge these two worlds. We recognized that it was essential to match the stature of the Museum, complementing the architecture of Kevin Roche, while telling visitors crisply and efficiently what they need to know.
Our assignment embraced all signage, from donor recognition to wayfinding. We also introduced the Met's first electronic signage, with projection walls and displays offering exhibition posters as well as daily event calendars and collections information—all united by a cohesive graphic identity.
